ABOUT MONTECITRUS
 

The Montecitrus Group was formed in 1983 by a successful traditional orange Producers association of the Monte Azul Paulista region, located in the Northern Region of State of São Paulo, Brazil, one of the major citrus plantation regions of the world.

Montecitrus Group producers descent from immigrants that were the pioneers in implementing the citriculture in the region, and it's development was and has been fundamental to the orange juice industry.

In the beginning, the Group had an area of approximately 15-thousand hectares and produced 5 million boxes of oranges. The success attained over time contributed to area expansion and to the development of new groves using the most advanced cultivation techniques, consolidating Montecitrus as one of the largest and most efficient companies in the industry in recent years.

Currently, the Montecitrus Group has 330 properties distributed along the whole citrus belt of the States of São Paulo and Minas Gerais, with a planted area of 35 thousand hectares and more than 13 million trees. Its annual production averages 20 million boxes, guaranteeing to the Company quality fruit supplies of the main citrus varieties during the whole season.

In addition to expanding production, the Montecitrus Group made many improvements in the areas of processing, logistics and commercialization, aiming the its Vertical Integration by using its own investments and through partnerships with third parties.

The Montecitrus Group shares are hold only by its member citrus producers by shares in the Montecitrus Participações Ltda. (holding). The production commercialization of all members is made by the Montecitrus Trading S/A.

The main goal of the Montecitrus Group is to obtain the best integration and efficiency through the Group of orange Producers, in processing and commercialization of orange, orange juice and by-products. To participate in the organization, producers must agree to comply with the Group's objectives, economic activities and operational conditions.

Montecitrus Group Structure:
Production:
Producers are directly responsible for their groves. They have the Group's support on operations and they rely upon the support of Uniceres, the Cooperative formed and managed by Montecitrus' members.
Fruit harvest and transportation:
For fruit picking and transportation, producers have access to services rendered by an Agricultural Labor Cooperative belonging to growers of the Group, which organizes and operates the transportation flow of the fruits to the processing plants.
Processing:
In order to process the fruit, Montecitrus Group use the facilities of Citrovita, company that have plants in the municipalities of Araras, Matão and Catanduva, all located in the interior of the State of São Paulo.
Logistics:
The Group uses Citrovita's transportation system for bulk juice. This transportation system includes a warehouse with storage capacity of concentrated juice located in the Port of Santos, ships to send the juice to buying markets and a port terminal in Antwerp, Belgium.

Commercialization:
The Montecitrus Group has a long tradition in forming partnerships in the processing, transport and commercialization areas. The main objective in this partnership relations is to vertically integrate the entire production, processing and commercialization of orange products.

Since October 1998, Citrovita produces orange juice and orange by-products for Montecitrus. By this partnership contract Montecitrus has successfully marketed and commercialized its products in several countries on various continents through a large marketing network.
